Q. How can I help my child do better in school?
A. Below is a link to an article written by the U. S. Department of Education. It has many ideas about how to help your child do better in school.

Q. What other things can I do to enrich my child's learning?
A. Everyday activities with you can be some of the best learning experiences. Play games together. Visit local museums, parks, libraries, etc. with your child. Talk with him/her about the who, what, where, when, and whys of everyday experiences. Even when you're watching TV together, have discussions about what you're seeing. Talk with your child about interesting stories you are reading on the Internet or in the newspaper.
Q. How much homework will my child have each night?
A. I strongly believe that elementary students should not have much homework. I want my students to have time to be with their family and friends after working seven hours at school. In addition, there is conflicting research on the effects of homework on elementary-age students and their learning. Therefore, I rarely assign any written homework. I do encourage students to spend some time reading every evening (anything they enjoy, such as comics, magazines, books, video game manuals, etc.) and to practice math facts periodically.
Q. How can I know what homework has been assigned?
A. Check my web page called "Homework" to see the assigned homework. It is updated weekly.
Q. How do you meet the needs of all learners?
A. I address the needs of all learners in many ways. This includes providing students with an appropriate physical environment and materials, providing differentiated instruction, monitoring students' progress, and providing individual help to those who are having difficulty with a particular skill and extension activities for those who have mastered it.
Q. What are grades based on in your classroom?
A. Grades are based on work completed in class, such as daily assignments, tests, and projects.
Q. Will my child take any standardized tests this year?
A. The MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) test will be administered in the spring. Students in the third grade take the Communication Arts and Math portions of the test.
Q. What is the best way to contact you?
A. The best way to contact me is by e-mail at [email protected].
